Seeing in the Dark

"When you turn to the right or when you turn to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it."  Isaiah 30:20

I'm thinking of the wee,
tiny cubs, born
blind and helpless
in the dark
den of winter.
How is it that
they travel,
toward the
life-giving teet
in that small,
dark space?

What I mean
is that there
must be other
ways of seeing,
of being led
in the darkness -
maybe scent or
some deeper intuition.

But there must
be something
that tells
the lone cicada
to dig upward,
not down,
something that
whispers to the child
in the womb
when the time
has come.

Maybe it is
the voice
that comes
from behind,
as the Prophet says,
in one's ear,
is the way
walk in it."

Whatever it is,
I'm looking now
for that leading.
Now that the lights
are out,
I'm developing
every one
of my senses.

  1. Good to be your neighbor, Kelly at Five Minute Friday! And what a gift for me to read your words. Thank you. At this time right after Christmas I'm reminded of the power of the One who came at night to be the light for the world. And I have to keep looking for that leading. Peace.

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Kimberly. I'm so happy Five Minute Friday is up and running again!

  2. I like this, and great use of the scripture. That small voice that is always there to guide us. A whisper to a child, very well written.

    1. Thanks, Alan. And thanks for adding the link on your blog.

  3. Kelly, this is awesome! This idea of developing other senses to help us find our way in the dark. I'm listening for those whispers, too.

    1. Thanks Sandra. If I remember correctly, you're taking a course with Tweatspeak this winter? Maybe I'll check that out sometime.

  4. GLORY, Kelly. Just lovely. Thanks so much.
